Is this April fool’s joke by the Metblog people?
Today Karachi Metroblog (KMB) readers were greeted by a post by Sean Bonner that they were shutting down KMB temporarily while they decide “what is the best future for it.†The reason he has given is because of the constant fighting between the authors of the blog. He concludes the post by asking the readers in an opinion poll, what should they do with KMB.
If this is true and is not some April Fool joke, then it is a sad day indeed. KMB used to give a platform to the bloggers of Karachi and was mostly visited by not only the citizens of Karachi but also those who were living aboard and yearned for everything and anything to do with the city they love.
Once again we have made a fool of ourselves because of our bickering and egos. I was once part of the KMB team but left because of the constant fighting that was between the authors and the readers of the blog. The authors had to justify each and every single post that was posted there, like they were the servants of the readers. What the readers didn’t realize was that the authors were doing it as a volunteer service. Although in those days there weren’t any infighting between the authors.
Just last month, there was also a similar incident that happened over the flickr group for Karachi called Karachi Photographers Club, a clash of egos between a few moderators and administrators caused havoc on the group which until then was going great guns as a platform for new emerging photographers from Karachi. As a result of this clash, the group split up and the respective parties involved formed their own groups where they can be the head honchos and be happy with the fact that they are in control.
Why can’t we get along with each other? What is it about the posts of the administrator of these small time groups/blogs that we Karachi people can’t resist and are willing to make a fool of ourselves in front of the whole world?
Update: It seems like the unthinkable has actually happened. Teeth Maestro reports on his blog that his login access has been disabled to the site, seems like even the senior most authors of the blog didn’t saw this one coming. I wonder what actually happened for the owners of the metblogs to take this drastic step.
Let’s see what happens now and how this drama unfolds.

Zag, there would be always differences b/w authors and readers and that is a healthy sign but the site is shut down due to differences among the authors. I would like to see you and Ramla back on new site which I am sure Sean is gonna reinstate. I will call him personally tomorrow and would recommend you and Ramla. Please be willing to take position if asked.
tell me about it. i stopped visiting KMB cause of some of the authors.their system was faulty as some readers would post a reply to my comments using my nick making some sort of absurd statement.
some of the authors used it as a platform to voice their own “opinions” which were quite biased.
