Zong IDEOS – Zong’s Android Smart Phone
I was watching Karachi vs Lahore cricket match in the ongoing Faysal Bank T20 going on in Lahore when I saw Zong’s new ad where they are offering their customer a chance to buy smart phone for only Rs15,999/- and you get a Zong prepaid connection free plus 6 months of free mobile internet on your new connection. I thought maybe they will be offering some crappy phone with unknown OS, but was surprised when the ad went on proclaiming that the said smart phone has Android 2.2 (Froyo). This peaked my interest. I logged on to Zong’s website to get more details about this phone and check out these stats:
The phone was called Zong IDEOS and these amazing looking specs had me salivating. However, one piece of puzzle was missing and that was whether this phone comes with a resistive or a capacitive screen. I tried looking up on Google for a review but couldn’t get anywhere as it constantly kept asking me whether I want to search “videos” instead of “ideos”!! As I was about to give up, I struck gold and found out that this phone is actually manufactured by Huawei who are calling it Huawei IDeOS. Amazingly it does have a capacitive touch screen. Cnet has done a review for this phone and have said some really good things for it, especially considering the low price. The only down side is that its screen’s resolution is low (320×240) when compared to some of the big shots in the Android world. But of course, you are not paying as much for it either.

Nopz, it is carrier locked, but can be easily unlocked from any good mobile shop in less than 300 rupees.
Hello All,
Today I visited zong franchise for buying the set. It looks great in the videos, pics and seem it has good features. Actually it got the good features and it has Android latest version Froyo 2.
But when I asked for a demo, they gave me the set. My first impression was ok. But when I starting using it, it was a complete failure. It has very low quality hardware. While grabbing the set you seem you have a toy in your hand. It got very very small screen which makes it more worst.
I hardly used that demo for 2 – 3 minutes and left the franchise.
So that was my experience. Please do post yours if you able to get hand on one.
But I think if its price bring down between 11K to 12K then one can think of buying it. In currant price 16K it is a totally bad deal.

Muhammad Ali: Thanks for the heads up, I haven’t had the time to go and check it out myself. It looked beautiful in the pics but i was also concerned about it’s screen as it’s smaller than most of the smartphones….

Umm Zong Ideos main 8mp GPRS per month hai and 6 months warranty.
It’s a 2G phone though I’ve heard it does support some features of 3G. And yeah it is Sim locked but u can easily have it unlocked for 300-500 Rs. That isn’t a big deal huh. I’m definitely gonna buy this as Zong has reduced its price enough.
